Like the library legend receiving steroid treatment from the Lawnmower Man, while there’s no mistaking the work of chintzy theme-tuner Keith Mansfield in the hook, GRiZ’s ‘The Future Is Now’ is an altogether more muscular beast.
It borrows so heavily from the chorus of Mansfield’s ‘Exclusive Blend’ the less generous might classify it a remix, but Detroit glitch-hopper’s meandering saxophone and dubsteppy drops do just about enough to make this a thrilling kind of stand-alone, dirty future funk.
Channeling all the previously discussed appeal of Alan Hawkshaw’s jazzual 60s pop through the bleeding edge electro-funk bells and whistles of Pretty Lights, GRiZ’s new direction is pure library filth.
